What is happening in the Year 9 class this term with Whaea Shirley?

Science – the unit this term is Maramataka Maori. For this unit we will look at weather patterns and the moons effect on the weather, how to tell when it is a good time for fishing and planting and how to read the Maramataka Maori. If there are parents who are familiar with the Maori fishing and planting calendar please come in and talk with us, as your input is always valued.

Maths – we have been learning about measurement and using a protractor and compass. This term we have been fortunate to have Brother Bryan in with us and the students have learned many new skills. We are currently doing a unit on statistics and the students have used computers to do some of this unit.

Form class – students are generally always in the correct uniform. The procedure now is, if they arrive without their uniform they go on detention. This seems to be working in this class. We always seem to have problems getting notes from parents/caregivers for students who have been absent from school. If your child is absent from school could you please make sure your child brings a note of explanation. Thank you.
